Warm chestnut skin adorned with gold necklaces and earrings flickering under the South Central sun followed Zaynab through every block and bodega growing up, but turning on the TV at home, their friends, family, and they themself became stock footage, subplot, stereotype. Zaynab plans to interrupt this sociocultural indoctrination by designing for disruption, in defiance of tired narratives about ability, class, race, and gender that still proliferate digital media today. By prioritizing empathy and intention while centering decolonial thought in their video and motion design work, Zaynab attempts to stage a small protest in each key frame, editing towards a more equitable future. Zaynab is a 2019 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley's African American Studies department. They are currently based in Oakland, California.
